On April 5, 2025, Arriondas will once again be the epicenter of stand-up paddle with the new edition of the SPS SELLA SUP RIVER RACE. As every year, SPS reaffirms its commitment to this exciting competition, consolidating its role as the main sponsor.
A landmark course
This event, considered the most important SUP whitewater race in Spain, will bring together dozens of paddlers in a 15-kilometer challenge that will connect the Emilio Llamedo bridge in Arriondas with the San Román bridge. A unique opportunity to experience the thrill of the Sella descent from a paddleboard.
Disciplines and categories
The SPS SELLA SUP RIVER RACE 2025 will feature various disciplines:
- S1 – Individual: One paddler per board.
- S2 – Tandem: Two paddlers per board.
This year, the S4 group category will not be available.
Regarding categories, only the 14’ category for S1 is considered, while the S2 category will have no board restrictions.
Rules and safety measures
To ensure participants’ safety, the organization sets the following rules:
- Minimum age: 16 years old on the day of the event, with parental consent if underage.
- Mandatory: Life jacket use.
- Optional: Leash use, always tied around the waist, never the ankle or knee.
- Maximum time: 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the race.
- Timing: Official, manually timed by judges.
Start format
The start will follow the traditional Sella format, with the following order:
- Winners of previous editions (from the most recent to the oldest).
- Paddlers according to their position in the previous edition, as long as they completed registration on time.
- The rest of the participants in order of registration.
- S2 category: Will start according to the same criteria as S1.
Registrations and key dates
- Registration opens: July 7, 2024 (12:00h).
- Registration closes: March 5, 2025 (23:59h).
- Event date: Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00h.
- Location: Arriondas, Asturias.
Services and logistics
- Shuttles: The organization will provide transportation from the finish line to the start on race day at 9:00h.
- Inflatable board rentals: It is recommended to contact SPS (Cesc – 605 796 412) in advance.
